[For the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing excerpts from favourite songs. Here is the first – I’m sure some of you will relate. I hope there is some “together” in your loneliness:]
If you’re lost and you’re lonely
Go and figure out why
Take a trip to your darkside
Go on and have a good cry
‘Cause we’re all lonely
Yeah, we’re all lonely together….
[Here’s a second quote used by Margaret Anne at her Fireside Chat last week. This one is great to remember as the days get shorter these next couple of weeks:]
“The winter solstice celebrates the return of hope to our land as our
planet experiences the first slow turn toward greater daylight. Soon we
will welcome the return of the sun and the coming of springtime. As
we do so, let us remember and embrace the positive, enriching aspects
of winter’s darkness. Pause now to sit in silence in the darkness of this
space. Let this space be a safe enclosure of creative gestation for you.”
- from “A Celebration of Winter Solstice” in The Circle of Life by Joyce Rupp and Macrina Wiederkehr.
Does the seed rejoice
when it loses sight of light?
When it is buried
underneath the earth?
in its dark embrace?
Does it understand?
cracking in the unseen?
Does it feel life’s pull?
Push towards the warmth,
the calling of sun?
Burrow deeper in,
into the richness, the intimate earth?
Pathways through sky and stone,
we push ever further,
into unknown, with unseen force
into the depths and into the heights,
light displays our growth
as darkness conceals its source.
